A View From The Top

Autumn is showing her colors in the mountains and we are nearing the peak of our leaf changing season. There was a slight nip in the air, as we headed up the trail to see the view from the top. Lacy, our Walker hound enjoyed running ahead of us as we walked along the leaf covered path. Naturally, I was the one to find the snake on the trail...sorry no pictures, too busy jumping out of the way as I yelled, "Snake!!"...to which my husband replied, "Honey, it's just a little garter snake" and with that picked up the snake with a stick and called the dog over so she could investigate...do men ever really grow up?
I was also the one who experienced the spider web to the face, the yellowjacket buzzing around my head and learned just how slick wet leaves and clay can be...and that was only the beginning of the hike. Nope, never a dull moment. Near the end of the day, as we started back, my dear husband, choosing to go down the ridge a different way than we went up, took great pleasure in "pretending" to be lost...he knew I would believe him...but I was not amused.

Seriously though, the view was spectacular along the ridge...the forest sounds were only hightened by the lack of "external noises"...it's amazing how much still and quiet surrounds you. It was a wonderful day...even with all my unexpected distractions.
